1904 - In the beginning
The recently formed male choir, under the leadership of Mr Ted Harris, gave their first concert before a very large audience at the Drill Hall on Friday evening.
The full choir, numbering twenty - six voices, acquitted themselves well and rendered in a very creditable manner the selections "YE Mariners of England", "A Frankyn's Dogge", "Soldiers Chorus", and "We'd run them in".
Miss Winifred Andrewartha, CPTCL, accompanied on the pianoforte and also rendered a couple of pianoforte solos with exquisite taste and precision.
Songs were sung by Miss May Guard, who was encored, by Mr J H Trudgeon, in the character of "A Military Man" and by Messrs. W Renfree, Jago, H Laity, and C D Williams and one of the best items, which caused much amusement, was the humourous quartette "Quibble's Cocoa" sung by Messrs T Harris, J Jewell, W Bennett and J H Trudgeon.
